    Employ Older Workers Week 2019

This week is Employ Older Workers Week! Older workers are an important force that contribute to our workplaces and communities with their wisdom and experiences. In addition to Illinois workNet’s article on how these workers can remain working and engaged, check out the sources below for additional information.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a “community service and work-based training program for older workers.” This website is a great location for individuals 55 and older who are looking to improve their employability skills. By being part of this program, older workers gain access to additional resources, services, and training opportunities. Be sure to check out the WorkforceGPS Resource Library for additional information concerning older workers.

Another resource to check out is Older Americans Month (OAM). This year’s theme was Connect, Create, Contribute, which encourages communities to:
    • Connect – with friends, family, and services that support participation.
    • Create – by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
    • Contribute – time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.

This month recognizes older adults around the country and encourages them to participate in activities within their communities. The Activity Page on Older Americans Month’s website offers several ideas of how these individuals can share their experiences with one another, younger generations, on social media, and much more. To read more about this month, check out the Older Americans Month’s website.
