Why an Illinois Longitudinal Data System?
The effective use of longitudinal data improves transparency, student achievement, and system performance.
ILDS provides the legal and technical systems to coordinate longitudinal data across participating Illinois state agencies while protecting individuals' privacy by building on decades of work and experience within agencies that continually improve internal data systems and external sharing processes.
Policymakers and communities make better-informed decisions by:
Connecting citizens with data on how early childhood programs, schools, districts, postsecondary institutions, and workforce training programs perform.
Combining data across multiple state systems to better understand the outcomes of learners served by and across state-funded programs.
Boosting system performance through cooperative efforts among education and workforce development agencies, thus reducing the burden on local programs and encouraging efficiency system-wide.
